Barone Pizzini Animante
Probably Italy's Best-Kept Secret
Enjoyed on: February 27, 2021
Grapes: 84% Chardonnay, 12% Pinot Noir, and 4% Pinot Bianco
Dosage: < .5 g/L
Color: Milk Pail. A beautiful white gold color, like when something white reflects off metal.
Nose: We got a strong wave of ginger, fresh and bracing. Then ginger mingles with lemon. It reminded me of the pots of stewed pears my family used to make--when you lifted the lid a wave of lemon-ginger steam would condense on your face and make your eyes water.
Taste: This was soooo light and creamy, with definite but gentle flavors of lemon. Like a lemon cream, or lemon meringue pie. Or the lemon part of a July 4th ice pop. On second tasting, lemon zest shone through.
For an export-driven economy like Italy's, it means something when Italians prefer to keep a wine for themselves. The vast majority of Franciacorta is enjoyed by the nation that produces it, and we can't blame them.
Drink this bottle if you want to feel uplifted. It brings you into a summer world of freshness.
