Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée, Brut
Lemon sorbet at the beach
Enjoyed on: April 2, 2021
Grapes: 50% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir, 15% Meunier
Dosage: 9 grams/L
Color: Beach Morning. A dreamy pale yellow that calls to mind calm, reflected sunlight.
Nose: Mango, orange peel. Musty on the nose.
Taste: Frothy creaminess is one of the most striking aspects on the palate. A sip is more refreshing than it is sour, which can give the impression of sweetened lemon flavors (think white lemon Italian ice), despite the low overall sweetness consistent with a low-ish dosage.
Initially, frothy citrus predominates as you sip--almost like you shook a can of lemon-lime soda and drank the bubbles off the top. After that comes a layer of salinity, which fades into smoother sorbet and Italian ice. A slight saline after taste rounds out the beachy vibe.
We drank this as a celebratory bottle the night after our second COVID vaccine dose. As the side effects kicked in, we sipped this bottle slowly and it brought to mind sorbets and stomach-soothing ginger ale. We weren’t mad about it. Soothing and appropriately celebratory.
